Darwin & Kakadu

Well we have been very busy since arriving in Darwin a week ago.
We caught up with our friends Cathy, Dean & Son Kyle - we lived in the same park as them in Kalgoorlie.
We all enjoyed a lovely meal at The Casuarina Club on Saturday Night:

Kyle, Dean & Kathy
Then on Sunday we had a lovely BBQ Lunch with friends Kerry & Grant. - they were our neighbours when we lived in Darwin

Grant, Dave & Kerry

Kerry & Me - Coke I was driving :(

Water Babies!
Dave & I have started walking for an hour each morning - to counteract the lifestyle up here :)
We walk down to Lee Point Beach every morning:

Lee Point Beach - tide well out!
On Monday we went out to the Humpty Doo Pub for a great lunch:

Steak Burger

Yes we ate it all

this truck was parked in the car park

Bundy Lovers in the NT!

On Wednesday we decided to head out to Kakadu for a few days, we left the van in Darwin & took our tent:

We stopped off at the Corroberee Tavern for lunch, they have a few animals there on show:

An Albino Buffalo

Pigs

& A Big Saltie - 4mtrs long!
Then we stopped off at The Bark Hut Inn:

Barra

Then into Kakadu:
We went straight to Cooinda to set up camp. Haven't set up a tent in a while so didnt know how long it would take us :)
Note to Paul & Wendy:
This is my version of "roughing it" MUST be somewhere with toilets & showers :)
All Done

It was pretty warm there and the mozzies just about carried you away!
We walked over to the resort hotel & had a few drinks at very high prices!!!
Then back to camp & Dave cooked dinner:
Master Chef Dave!

We went to bed pretty early, we have booked the sunrise Yellow Waters Cruise.
Bloody mozzies were up that early too! But luckily they were not in our tent.
But they sure got us while we were waiting to catch the bus,
& we had covered ourselves in lotion!

Totally worth it though the sunrise was perfect!

Sunrise on Yellow Waters

We only saw a few Crocs

Croc at Sunrise

But we did see lots of Birds:

whistling Kite with Catfish

Dart - New feathers growing

Sea Eagle

Pelicans
Jesus Bird - walks on water

Great Egret

It was a perfect day for a cruise.

The cruise finished at about 8.30am & we went back to camp unsure what to do next as most of the attractions roads were still closed from the wet season.
we spoke to the Gardener who suggested a swimming whole we could visit, so off we went.

We drove through a creek crossing to get to the car park:

Then it was a 3 k walk to get to the waterholes:

the scenery was beautiful:

then we got to the waterholes:

Crystal Clear water

Then of course we had to walk 3k back out - glad we had we walking in Darwin!

Then we called into a lookout to have lunch. The climb to the lookout was straight up 1.6k So off we went & believe me it was tough going, but we kept telling ourselves it will be worth it when we get there.
All up hill

Nearly vertical in places

But it wasn"t that great when we got there because the trees had grown so much they blocked the view!

Oh well we got plenty of exercise today!
Then back to camp for a few well earn't Bundies :)

The next morning Dave cooked us a lovely breakfast before we packed up camp:

Yes I think I like this kind of camping - I don't cook :)
( But I did have a lot of washing to take home)

We left the park about 10 & headed off to Darwin via Pine Creek.
We stopped at another lookout on the way- didnt have to walk far at this one:
BukBukLuk Lookout

Then onto the Stuart Hwy, there were Caravans everywhere, very slow going. Dave didn't get to do 130ks very often :)
We called into the Adelaide River Inn for lunch & this time I took a photo of Charlie the Buffalo from the "Crocodile Dundee" Movie:
Charlie & Dave

We got back to our van at about 3 & caught up with all the washing.
Today we went to the Caravan & Camping Show, which wasn't too bad we purchased some Mozzie & Midgee stuff that is supposed to work really well - we'll see!

Well I finally caught up & that was only a week!
Tonight we are off to a Rodeo, but that will be in the next post.
Cheers & Happy Travels,
Shell

  2. Hey Dave and Shell, and happy mothers day to you Shell.

Deleted the earlier post as I made a few spelling mistakes

Another great post and I am so jealous. Warm weather, outside activities.....grrrrrrrrrrrr. And a brisk walk every morning, just love it. Cold and wet here in Coffs Harbour, over it.

Hey the camping thing, well I guess you are a five star camper. Couldn't imagine the bride tenting it....not a good look for a 20 star camper.

Look forward to your next up date, and I will send you an email

    Cheers and lots of Bundies.
